Raising Masculine Boys
Masculine… not the all muscles and no brain and heart man, the real masculinity.
How do we raise a generation of masculine men? We need that the world is in dire need of it but the question remains. How?
I’ll be having a baby boy in a couple of days or weeks. I will be faced with the daunting task of raising up a boy who would grow up hopefully to be a man of God. So how will I do it?
I think the Scripture has the answer to my question:
Ephesians 6:4 New International Version (NIV)
4 Fathers,[a] do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
I am mandated by God to raise up my son in the training and instruction of the Lord, not by force but with God’s love and grace. Steve Farrar said that Ephesians 6:4 is a compass that enables a father to give his children correct guidance toward finding their sexual identities. It tells us how to lead and direct our kids.
As Fathers, we have to lead our sons to the right direction and access to information. It is leading them towards biblical manhood. John Piper hits a home run when he said this:
” The tendency today is to stress the equality of men and women by minimizing the unique significance of maleness and femaleness. It is taking a tremendous toll on generations of young men and women who do not know what it means to be a man or a woman. Confusion over the meaning of sexual personhood is epidemic…The consequence… is more divorce, more homosexuality, more sexual abuse, more promiscuity, more social awkwardness, and more emotional distress and suicide that comes with the loss of God-given identity.” – John Piper
