1 Kings 3:9-13 English Standard Version (ESV)
9 Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?” 10 It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this. 11 And God said to him, “Because you have asked this (WISDOM), and have not asked for yourself long life or riches or the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right, 12 behold, I now do according to your word. Behold, I give you a wise and discerning mind, so that none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you. 13 I give you also what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that no other king shall compare with you, all your days.
Today a million people will try to gather to Luneta to #scrappork. Not pork meat but the pork barrel of our politicians because it has been misused and abused for the longest time. Billions of pesos every year goes to the pocket of corrupt politicians whose motivation in running is to serve themselves and not the people who voted for them. This is again a wake up call for the Filipinos to do something to define the history of our nation.
I was reading through 1 Kings chapter 3 where Solomon had a dream. In his dream he asked God for wisdom. I hope our politicians would be the same way. Solomon saw himself as a servant – which means he doesn’t feel entitled to use whatever resources for his sake and comfort. He was there to serve God and his people.
He wanted to discern good and evil. I pray for godly men and women who would serve our country with a right heart. Who would not lie to their country men and themselves that they are helping the nation while at the same time pocketing billions of pesos. Some are so callous to the sins they have committed that they think they are doing nothing wrong.
As Filipinos, let us not only ask for the scrapping of the Pork Barrel but wisdom to discern and put the right men and women in positions of power. The power to choose is in our hands. Let us choose wisely and I do pray that leaders of the land who have stolen from the “kaban ng bayan” would have the delicadeza and the decency to step down in their position of leadership and make way for good people to lead.
