9 Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; 10 for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; 11 discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you,
16 So you will be delivered from the forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words, 17 who forsakes the companion of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God; 18 for her house sinks down to death, and her paths to the departed; 19 none who go to her come back, nor do they regain the paths of life.
As we walk in the wisdom of God, righteousness, justice and equity follows. The Bible promises that there will be discretion that will watch over us and we start to understand why we can’t do somethings that the world does. Why the different standard?
Proverbs gives us an example when it comes to having relationship with forbidden women ( pre-marital sex, prostitution, adultery, porn, homosexuality). Forbidden women will always sweet talk us. There is a sense of adventure when it comes to forbidden relationships but at the same time there is a price to pay.
When we say yes to another women that is not our wife – we forsake the friendship, the years of building your marriage for one short term thrill. And the weightiest of it all is that we break the covenant of God.
To break the covenant that you make with God is the most unthinkable or could I say the most stupid thing we could ever do. Do commit adultery with another woman is not worth it. It is like picking up a fight with God. That is why men who have multiple adulterous relationship never gets blessed. They could have the girls but the girls won’t satisfy them. They can have lots of sex but do you ever wonder why they hop from one girl to the other – unsatisfied.
Verse 19 is a dagger – none who go to her come back, nor do they regain the paths of life.
We cannot be dictated by our feelings. We are dictated by the covenant of God. Use wisdom before you choose to be unfaithful so that you don’t get to be unfaithful.
