5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Men, our role as fathers is crucial. More than just providing financially, we also need to spiritually lead our family especially our kids. The Scripture tells us to teach our kids to love the Lord with all our heart, soul and might. Now is there a lesson plan for that?
Yes, there is. First is the Bible. Do you model to your kids that you are reading the Bible regularly. Monkey see- monkey do. Be the big monkey at home when it comes to reading the Bible. The best curriculum your kids could have in regards to loving God is you.
Secondly, our marriage. How daddy treats mommy speaks volume if our faith is something worth emulating. You do a disservice to your kids if you go to church, get involved in ministry and public service but don’t treat your wife with love and respect. It is hypocrisy at the highest level and form.
Thirdly – our life. We will be tested and our kids are watching. From the red stoplight, to our bad habits, words that we say, and almost everything we do – eyes are on us. That is leadership at home. Thus we are commanded to instruct our kids all around the house from the entrance to every nook and cranny of our home – it is shouting GOD IS FIRST in this family and it is something we value.
Ask yourself: Am I diligently and consistently teaching this to my kids?
