Have you heard the song, I’m a lover, not a fighter? Well, catchy title but not entirely true.
You see if you love something, you fight for it. You are desperate for it. You will do whatever it takes to make it happen. A man who says he loves his health but continues to stay fat and refuse to be fit is fooling himself. (Man!, I’m fooling myself for the past 8 years, time to get serious about it)
A man who says he really loves his wife but is not fighting for the marriage is baloney! A man who says he loves his kids but has no time for them and will not fight to be present in their lives is a passive father.
You see talk is cheap. A lover is a fighter.
Jesus is a lover-fighter. That’s why his last few days on earth is called the PASSION OF CHRIST. Passion includes strong feelings, an abandoned display of emotion, boundless enthusiasm and love. Jesus endured the cross, scorning its shame for the joy that was set before him – MANKIND.
Isaiah 53:5 English Standard Version (ESV)
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.
Pierced, crushed, chastisements, wounds. The lover fought for us.
THE LOVER IS A FIGHTER.
