How can you Lose?

When things go from bad to worse, most of the time, our human nature draws out the worst in us.

We grumble, complain, become anxious, worrisome, lose our focus or attention on what we do at work or in school, or get easily irritated.

But here’s what I “rediscovered” again upon listening to a podcast by American pastor Mark Batterson, where he talks about God as Someone, who will “never abandon us”, even in our worst state.

I checked ouT Romans 8:31-39, and in the Message translation, it says there:

“31-39 So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us? (EMPHASIS MINE) And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God’s chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for us—who was raised to life for us!—is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us. Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing…”

It’s true. The down moments can bring the worst in us sometimes.

We tend blame people, blame circumstances,  lose hope, or even worst is, we blame God for our misfortunes.
But there’s one clear and undeniable truth that St. Paul wrote on the passage we just read – That With God our side, how can we lose? In the New International Version, it says, if God is for us, then who can be against us?
If you’re in a down moment, it would be helpful to take the time to process that point and let that truth sink in…Because when we begin to believe that God indeed, is on our side, then, think about it, How can we lose?
* It’s like having eight-time world division boxing champion Manny Pacquiao at your side when you’re engaged in a fight.
* Or having Lebron James playing at your team and helping you win the tournament.
* Or being trained by no less than Michael Phelps, the all-time most decorated Olympic athlete.
Down and out? Think about it again, YOU ARE NOT ALONE because God promised that HE IS ON YOUR SIDE. And when God is on your side, HOW CAN YOU LOSE?
