2 Chronicles 21:20 (ESV)
20 He was thirty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. And he departed with no one’s regret. They buried him in the city of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
Reading my bible yesterday and came across this sad verse. This is the life of Jehoram. He was a leader at a young age of 32 and died at the age of 40. He had eight years to serve as king. He had 8 years to build lasting friendship and leave a legacy for his kids but instead when he became king, he killed all his brothers (competitors to the throne) and other people he deemed as competitors.
Jehoram also worshipped different gods, trying to find favor with all the gods and goddesses. He led the nation into whoredom and rebellion against God. Because of that God’s wrath came upon him, and the Philistines and the Arabs invaded Judah and took away all his possessions. He then had an incurable disease at the age of 38 with no one honoring him.
Jehoram lived life for himself. It was an empty, selfless life. Not the kind of life you want to live.
When you start living your life just thinking about you – you end up dying with no one regretting it.
