We just concluded our 5 day of prayer and fasting in church. In prayer and fasting instead of eating our breakfast, lunch and dinner, we have an extended time of prayer (individually and corporately) as a church and also an extended time of reading the Bible and letting God speak to us. After five days, most of the people would say that they experienced the mighty presence of God in their midst. Their minds are filled with the Word of God and I’m telling you when you fill your mind with God’s Word it is truly powerful.
The Bible talks about filling our minds with the Scripture.
Philippians 4:8-9 English Standard Version (ESV)
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
Psalm 119:9-11 English Standard Version (ESV)
9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. 10 With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! 11 I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Joshua 1:8English Standard Version (ESV)
8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Filling our minds with the right stuff produces a healthy life and healthy faith. Obesity is not caused by the overload of available food; it is caused by the over consumption of the bad kind of food – junk. Same is true with our brain and our spirit – fat brains are not caused by the overload of available information ( ask google), but the over consumption of bad, low quality junk information like reality tv, facebook news feed that keeps you glued on your screen for hours, gossips, celebrity news and dwelling on comments of haters.
The solution is to have a solid, healthy information diet – Know what you need to read. Chew on the essentials. You don’t have to eat all the information around you. Learn how to choose and consume only what is needed.
Why not start making it a goal to read at least 1 book per quarter. You would have finished 4 books this 2015. Or make it a goal to finish your Bible by subscribing to a YOU-VERSION Bible plan. Just download the app and pick a plan. I am currently using the ESV Bible Plan. It’s amazing stuff and gives you the discipline to finish the Bible in a year.
I am looking forward to seeing you have a healthy mind and brain. Avoid brain farts this year!
