Half the Sky

Taking Manhood Back

Half the Sky

half-the-sky-cover1Last week I finished the documentary produced by PBS titled HALF THE SKY: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide. Traveling with intrepid reporter Nicholas Kristof and A-list celebrity advocates America Ferrera, Diane Lane, Eva Mendes, Meg Ryan, Gabrielle Union and Olivia Wilde, the series introduces women and girls who are living under some of the most difficult circumstances imaginable — and fighting bravely to change them. Their intimate, dramatic and immediate stories of struggle reflect viable and sustainable options for empowerment and offer an actionable blueprint for transformation.

One of the things that struck me with the movie is how women are heavily oppressed around the world. It is within our neighborhood that we see such cruelty and discrimination women face. During the scene where Olivia Wilde asked if women need men – the battered woman said ” Women need men who are lovers and not violent.”

It is a powerful statement! WOMEN NEED MEN WHO WOULD LOVE THEM BY PROTECTING THEM AND PROVIDING FOR THEM. She then tells the story of how it was in their culture that men have the right to beat women up and discriminate them.

This has been the heart of our website ACTLIKEAMAN.ORG. We are dedicated to equipping and empowering men to be LEADERS, PROTECTORS AND PROVIDERS TO THEIR SPOUSE, FAMILY AND NATION.

We have an international problem of fatherless homes, passive men and men who remain boys forever. The increase of sexual trafficking, porn and prostitution is being fed by men who are not doing their role to love, lead and provide.

If you know of any man in your life who needs some help to be a real man, do, please share this website to them.
