Taking Manhood Back

Thammie, thanks for Breastfeeding our Kids

This month is Breastfeeding Month. II thank God I married a breastfeeding mom. Breastfeeding has done a lot of wonders to our kids and our wallet as a family (hehe).

My wife Thammie breastfed all our kids and here are some benefits on top of mind;

1. Our kids have a higher immune system.

One large study by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences showed that children who are breastfed have a 20 percent lower risk of dying between the ages of 28 days and 1 year than children who weren’t breastfed, with longer breastfeeding associated with lower risk.

The main immune factor at work here is a substance called secretory immunoglobulin A (IgA) that’s present in large amounts in colostrum, the first milk your body produces for your baby. (Secretory IgA is present in lower concentrations in mature breast milk.) The substance guards against invading germs by forming a protective layer on the mucous membranes in your baby’s intestines, nose, and throat.

I’m thankful that the only time we go to the hospital is because my kids need immunization or annual check up with their pedia.

2. Natural is still the way to go.

I don’t have strong feelings against cow’s milk – I drink them and I eat cows (haha) but we have seen how healthy it is for both kids and moms to be breastfeeding. I grew up with so many processed foods and I have seen the effect of it now in my 30’s. To see my kids drinking their mom’s milk in the first year of their life is a blessing.

Some people would tend to compare breastfed kids to other children and would say how thin they are and they look unhealthy. You see in some cases, according to our pedia – breastmilk tend to produce lean babies and it is nothing we should worry about. In fact, looking at it now, I am still in the process of losing my baby fats.

3. Savings!

I think this is what daddy wants to hear. Breast milk is free and to get better quality mothers must be healthy and eat right also. So you eat healthier and you still save. That’s thousands of pesos every month for the family to use for something else!
