“The Honorable Gentleman from ……..”

Honor……

A word often used but rarely seen.

The “Honorable Gentleman” is a title you hear when you listen to politicians talk and debate on TV. Last 2016, the Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte went as far as to make a memorandum to drop the word honorable in the titles given to public servants in the government office.

Honor or the act of honoring is a practice that we must not lose as a people. As men, living in a culture where gossip abounds and haters are trending… we need to move in the opposite spirit. Honoring people in authority is expected from godly Christian gentlemen.

It was in church that I learned the power of honoring people especially the authorities God has placed in our lives. When we move in honor as men, it speaks great volumes of our character.

Let me give you an example. If you are sitting with a group of men who are gossiping about others and you choose to stand and leave the conversation – it shows a lot of class.

If you are sitting with a group of men who are gossiping about others and you choose to stand and leave the conversation – it shows a lot of class.

When people around you treat sex as casual and adultery as normal but you choose to be faithful to the wife of your youth and flee sexual temptation – that is a world class act.

When people and keyboard warriors dishonor government authority and whine a lot in social media and you choose to ignore and not join the bandwagon because you have a commitment to serve the church, your community and your family – that is doing more than just making a lot of social media noise.

When somebody maligns you (whether in person or in social media or thru fake accounts), don’t hit back because if you know you are clean and honorable – no need to defend yourself. Your name will speak for itself. That’s why the Scripture tells us a GOOD NAME is better than riches.

HONOR.

Here is a message I gave on honoring those in authority. Hope this message disturbs you as you develop a lifestlye of honor.
